Ah, okay, my aunt lives there. I'm out in Suffolk - Huntington to be exact. :) Do you go to school out here? Sorry, I'm being nosy so feel free to say "butt out bitch!" ;)
Heh, you're not being nosy. I go to school at Adelphi. Yup, I'm paying a lot for a crappy edumacation.
Huntington! I know it somewhat well. Friends living out there and such.
Ah, Suffolk. So Suffolk-y. I actually drive out to Suffolk (Farmingdale) to go to the movies, because I love their stadium-seating. Plus, the airport plaza houses the closest bookstore to my house (I know! tis a cultural wasteland out here), Border's.
Hehe. We've probably been at that theater at the same time and never even known it then. ;) I probably go to the multiplex more often than UA actually. Can never park at UA. It's insane, but it gets the movies sooner than the Multiplex does.
Ahh airport plaza. I used to know a guy who worked in the hangar at Republic Airport and would let us into the private planes at night. I miss those good ol' days. ;)
I actually had class in that Borders all summer. There's one much closer to me, but that one was the closest meeting point for class so, yeah. ;)
Hehe, this is pretty nifty. I know of Adelphi, of course, and I'm sure I've seen it, but I have no clue where it is as I have no sense of direction. I went to Hofstra for my undergrad, where I studied fine arts with 1% of the student body. I understand this paying a lot for a little thing of which you speak.
My dad worked at Republic when I was little. I believe he was laid off from there twice. Ah, the Reagan years.
I tend to go the first morning showings at UA (because ticket prices are insane), for some reason I'll tend to luck out and get decent parking, but yeah, they do get better movies a lot of the time.
Ah, Hofstra. I didn't go to Hofstra because they offered me like nada for scholarships. Adelphi's in Garden City, so it's not very far from where I live.
I actually had class in that Borders all summer
Very neat! I tend to do browsing there, as I buy a lot of my books from Amazon or Barnes and Nobles online. But I'll probably pre-order the next HP book there, it was kinda exciting to have a midnight selling of the books.
Oh, and do you know of the 56th Fighter Group restuarant? It's right next to Republic. My mom used to work as a waitress there.
Hee, this is wild. A fellow LIer! I should make you cookies or something.
I had to go to sleep last night so I couldn't continue spamming your commenter. :) Sorry about that!
But uhh... let's see... OH, be thankful you didn't go to Hofstra. They have me some money, but they took a whole shitload as well. That place is insane. You know if you pick a flower on campus you get fined $300? No joke. We always used to joke about how that's where all our tuition money went. It's also overrun with cats because the people who owned the land there left it all to their cats and so they're allowed to roam freely and jump out at you while your merrily on your way to class and freak you out.
Yes, I do know where the restaurant is, but I haven't been to it. I think my friend used to go when he worked there. Not sure though. :)
And cool about HP midnight sales. I did the Amazon thing for the last one. It arrived the day it was released and I didn't open it for two days because I was trying to make it last. ;) The midnight book sale thing sounds like so much fun and so many people I know go to them. Hehehe... I should go with you for the next one... in 9 million years when it's finally released. ;)
Oh, so you're one of THOSE people, the sleeping kind. Naw, it's okay. I was staying up to catch the second showing of the Daily Show, as I missed the first one to watch the end of the RNC (because I'm stupid).
Ah, yes, the flowers. It was a running joke with my friends during senior year: I announced that one day I was just going to go to the campus, pick a bunch of flowers and run around going "la la la...I have flowers in my hair!"
Said in a very sing-song voice, by the by. It culminated in me going to my prom wearing a lovely gardenia in my hair. But I mostly did that because I'm a huge Billie Holiday fan.
Yikes, evil cats. I'd always thought the Hofstra campus was really fucked up, having it split across the fucking turnpike. I will say your library kicks my library's ass, I once had to go to Hofstra just to pick up a book for my art history independent study because my suckass school library didn't have the book, even though their records said they did.
Oh OotP, I totally read that the night and day after I picked it up. I'm a natural fast reader and I tend to read things twice. I in fact totally could not believe that Sirius was dead, I just *refused* to believe it. It wasn't until Harry tries to talk to the mirror that I started crying.
I didn't get the book until past one A.M. because my number was 100-and-something, and you had to wait to be called up to the registers in batches. What was neat was that your number in line was 'sorted,' but what sucked was that mine says "Hufflepuff." I am so not a Hufflepuffler.
I should go with you for the next one... in 9 million years when it's finally released
No, don't say such things! JKR will release the next one next summer. She must. Hee.
You'd probably be better company than my sister K. She hasn't read the books and mostly went to watch me geek out. Which, er, happens quite a bit.
I'm actually NOT the sleeping kind. I was forced into it by work. :( When I graduated and was not working for the summer, I would stay up until 6am and then sleep until 3. Mom was NOT pleased.
Other people have heard of the Hofstra flowers?! LOL. It's insane. $300 tulips.
Hofstra sucks ass. You know the worst part about that damn split? Okay, ALL the classes are on one side and the dorms on the other. The frickin' people who live just across the street (or across the easily crossable unispan), in the dorms, drive across to class and use up all the commuter parking spots. THEN, Hofstra went and took away one whole class side parking lot to put up a new "state of the art" building, and put up nifty signs on the dorm side saying "Parking Here," so all of us poor commuters would have to go breathlessly running across the unispan to not be late for class.
Not that I'm bitter. I parked illegally anyway. ;)
I'm a fast reader, too, which is why I didn't open the book right away. I caught on to HP really late so aside from the 4 months or so that I waited for OoTP after having finished GoF, I never had to wait for a book. I am not equipped to deal with this 2 year crap. Not when my favorite character was MURDERED in the end of the last book. Also, I refuse to accept that he's gone for good. I mean, if she makes it so then I'm forced to, and will of course have to kill her, but until I read more, I refuse!!! Refuse!! Oh, but Harry and the mirror? :sobs insanely:
The veil thing was too mysterious though. And Luna's comments as well. There has to be more.
Anyway, I could go out about this for hours, so I'll shut up about it now before I do.
The bookstore thing still sounds cool. I've never done that sort of thing. I should go with you, because I will absolutely accompany you in the geeking out.... which I do quite often as well. ;)
No, don't say such things! JKR will release the next one next summer. She must. Hee.
Next SUMMER? Good God, that is just too far away. You realize I become rabid by Sunday just waiting for Shoebox to be updated? (Ok, I'm exaggerating, but it's a sickness, really. I need to learn to wait for things. Or at least wait gracefully.)
Ah yes, work: the great equalizier. I used to stay up mad hours too, but as I found out I need to be awake while driving to work, I tend to try to go bed at a mildly godly hour.
The parking at Hofstra did look asstastic. I got lost trying to find a decent place to park.
Not when my favorite character was MURDERED in the end of the last book. Also, I refuse to accept that he's gone for good.
One of the first laws of fantasy/sci-fi: No one's dead if you don't see a body, HELL, even if you do see a body, until the very last act, unless there's an epilogue/sequel. See BtVS, A:tS, and Farscape.
I totally don't think he's dead for good. I may be in a bit of denial. He needs to come back and run away with Remus. Dammit.
The veil thing was too mysterious though
And JKR took a LONG time to explain it/talk about it. She may screw around with readers (Hullo, Mark Evans!), but when she really wants to set up an important plot point, she does.
Which is why I remain verrrry interested in Godric Gryffindor's sword. Hmm.

Oh, I'm totally the same way. I just place it far away, like with my rage. Heh. I got into HP when all four books were out and the wait for book 5 was crazy, but not as bad as some friends, who've been reading since early on (yikes). I do hope JKR finishes up before I'm an old, bitter fan.
