Ask me about my unpopular fandom opinion, and I shall spew forth some vitriol for you. Or, you know, express an opinion. Depends how I'm feeling, really.
S1 is pretty meh and the mystery of finding John Winchester was an empty frame device to hold up much of the season, ruined upon John Winchester appearing and turning out to be a giant bucket of suck.
What you talking about, woman? John Winchester was the greatest dad evah.
I didn't know I had to be specific, that's too much work. I was hoping for ALL of your unpopular SPN opinions, duh. Show, fandom, fanfic, I don't care. How about the fact that apparently Sam was driven to Ruby because of how much Dean oppressed him? (And see, this wouldn't be your unpopular opinion, this would be me wondering if the crack Kripke & Co. are smoking has gone past the expiration date.)
Personally, I'm for putting up content warnings. I've written some explicit sex scenes and written a bit of darkfic that has me questioning if I've gone too far and I'd feel completely awful if something I wrote actually triggered a survivor of abuse because I didn't warn for anything.
I mean. It can just be a couple of words: "contains non-con" and in typing out those words, it's taken me no time at all and whoever chooses to read my story has an idea of what's involved.
It kind of pisses me off to be reading some still rom-com kind of story and then it's like, oh hai, surprise rape and/or sexual abuse. Ugh.
I agree with this. As far as fandom etiquette goes, we use the MPAA system of rating, which provides the reason a film is rated a certain way. We're not writing grand pieces of literature.
Yeah I've always tried to stick with using the MPAA rating system (although, I don't use X because that's silly). So if I'm writing a NC-17 fic (aka porn) and it's relatively vanilla, I'd warn for sexual content. If it goes beyond the usual stuff and plays around with darker themes, I don't mind adding warnings for that. It's no skin off my nose.
And hey, I think my story when Sam and Dean raise Ben after he runs away from home is 109% PURE ART.
I don't really care for cupcakes! It's rare that I find a place that makes a really great cupcake and I kind of dislike most homemade cupcakes. Peeling off that paper wrapper irritates me.
It's weird. During and immediately after S3, most people hated on it but I thought it was fine and worked with what the writers had since they got screwed over by the Writer's Strike.
Now that S4 has happened and we're midway into S5, it seems like the general fandom mindset is to have positive, almost sentimental feelings towards S3, while dismissing most of S4 for jumping the shark or bringing in something that is just not the show they signed up for. So...I'm not sure. S3 has some great episodes but it also has a couple of episodes I hate with a burning passion (SIN CITY, argh!) and arc-wise kind of flailed along (but not as bad as S2; jeepers now that was a broken storyline).
So my feelings on it are mixed. I think the opening episode was great and had a lot of awesome horror moments, that there are full-out awesome episodes (Mystery Spot), and that Original Ruby was in my top 5 female characters to grace the show. But when the season floundered, it floundered badly and SPN's usual flaws shone through.
The S3 finale actually made me feel sad and I was so made about that, I created ohnokripkedidnt. Which might still have the April Fool's Chad Michael Murray header. lolllll
