Okay, my laptop is back and yay to all my things being all lovely and awesome and stuff.

Now I am working on my cracktastic Doctor Who/The Colbert Report crossover.

And I need to know, in order to write Better Know A Companion, how many companions the Doctor has had...on the show. An estimate is fine. I think it's 30-something, but am not sure.

Please help. Also, I will not be counting books/audio for sanity's sake.

There's this list at Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Doctor_Who_supporting_characters), and there used to be a list with biographies at the BBC but I can't find it now and don't have time to look everywhere. The link here seems to be dead, but I think it was dead when it first appeared, anyway (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/news/cult/news/drwho/2004/05/25/11344.shtml).

One day I'll write meta on why it would Really Suck to be a companion. Seriously. Look at the bios. See how many lived happily ever after.

Before "School Reunion", I would have picked Sarah Jane for one of them. Tegan, now... Book canon on their afterlives totally doesn't count.
