Thanksgiving 2004 and love is meme
Nov. 25th, 2004 11:04 pmThanksgiving was a remarkably lovely affair.
And thank you to all who commented yesterday. K is doing really, really well.
Ah, the food. There was turkey, homemade mushroom gravy, The Stuffing, candied yams, glazed root vegetables, garlicky green beans in a sherry sauce with sun-dried tomatoes, mashed potatoes, mushroom bisque, parmesan cheese popovers, Pillsbury grand biscuits (The Cuppy floves them ever so), and pie, of which too much was made.
Because no one eats the fucking pie because everyone is stuffed.
I also went to Blockbusters to rent PoA and Elf. Dude, why the hell is the Gaz and David interview so short? What the fuck is up with that stupid shrunken head? Whyyyy did they cut stuff from the interview?
And why is David Thewlis so adorable? And why did Gary Oldman think that when David suggested he'd be like a woman, that he'd be an old woman working in the kitchen, apparently peeling potatoes? Why is Gary Oldman so adorable as well?
But *squee* - The Hug. Always the hug. The hoyay lines. The gayness of Professor Lupin. Even though my sisters watched the movie while I was cooking, I'd come into the living room to ramble during a Lupin scene, "He is so gay. Gay gay gay. He just needs a banner to jump through and shout TA-DA!*"
(*This being a brilliant Stephen Colbert bit on TDS wherein he suggested one way of voting was to run through the candidate’s name in a "TA-DA" motion. It has to be seen.)
I'm getting into a bit of a festive mood now. I've been musing about doing a 12 Days of Christmas ficathon, wherein I either write a sort of countdown of fics: 12 drabbles until FIVE! FIC! LETS! and then finally a longer fic at the end. Or something like that. Or '12 Days of Pairings/Porn.' Something like that.
Maybe ask people for requests at a later date.
Oh, and I feel like an icon overhaul, change-up some stuff.
Meanwhile, after suffering through papers piled up over one another, I have to write FIVE papers in early December and take two final exams and ugh. UGH.
I'll be glad when this semester is over and I hope I'll scrape by with a decent GPA.
But I'm honestly far more pleased that my sister is home today, that she is doing fine, and that even though everything is going to be really, really hectic in the next few weeks, today was at least a relatively peaceful day.
And with that, I bring you love. Please don't break my legs.
This first one is actually the first result I received, so it's the honest one.
New York City is the kind of love that tells you to get the fuck out of the way. Because we got places to go, youknowwhatImean? But we love you baby. Especially if you don't stop in front of us to take a picture of the empire state building, dammit, just get the postcard!
Yes, here I am OTPing, *squeeing* and saying "Hell yeahs." Ain't nothing hotter than two complicated people with one fucked up history and tragedy just waiting for them. If that ain't love, then just don't tell me what is love.
Johnneh! I shall be seeing Finding Neverland on Saturday. Finally!
Smut is love indeed. A very Special Love. The sort of love that is a bit gratuitous, extreme, but oh so welcome.
Greek history is gay love. Damn you Alexander and Troy, damn you. Bring me some well-muscled quasi-historical gay Greeks, athankyouverymuch.
Here is my box of word. Have at it.

Shrunken head = Bane Of My Existence. I mean, come on. Did anybody actually enjoy that thing in the film so much that the DVD people thought it would be a spledid idear to PAPER EVERY INCH OF THE DISCS WITH IT?!?!?!?
Anyways:
There is absolutely no rhyme or reason for the Adorableness that is David Thewlis. I swear. I'm still trying to figure it out. WHY DOTH HE CAPTURETH MY VERY SOUL?!?!?
Gary, however, is adorable for obvious reasons, so no need to go there.
There is also absolutely no way that Remus Lupin, book or movie character, is straight. I'm still having trouble convincing
insane people of this. Though, I'm pleased that even my mom did a double-take at the "old married couple" quip.I am of the stance that anything that allows you to write more, and more often, should be vehemently supported and endorsed. SO OMG BRING ON THE 12 DAYS OF CHIRSTMATHON.... or whatever you feel like calling that there.
I have to apologize for... me. You see it's almost 6am and the turkey has had the exact opposite effect on me that turkey is wont to have.
I'm very glad your sister was able to be home for Thanksgiving, and that she's doing well. *hug*
Here's to the avoidance of school-born suicides. *cheers*

Date: 2004-11-27 06:57 am (UTC)It seemd to be something that would deal with the light, but I didn't see it in any of the behind-the-scene shots of the Lupinwolf transformation. So yeah, maybe they were just fucking with him. Heh.
The Shrunken Head fucking sucks. I was okay with it in the movie, but OMG the interviews, really? And everyone had to pun at the end of their interviews with head/no body jokes? (Although David was incredibly adorable with his - he's got some awesome timing, he does.)
There is also absolutely no way that Remus Lupin, book or movie character, is straight
And yet, a sick little part of me is fascinated with Remus/Lily. But they're so just a Will and Grace sort of pairing. He's too gay for her.
But plenty gay enough for me. *sigh* My gay werewolf boyfriend. *fangirls*
I am of the stance that anything that allows you to write more, and more often, should be vehemently supported and endorsed. SO OMG BRING ON THE 12 DAYS OF CHIRSTMATHON.... or whatever you feel like calling that there.
Huzzah! So shall it be plotted and eventually created - lots and lots of fic!

Date: 2004-11-27 06:27 pm (UTC)I was thinking, though. You want to know what I like about the movie? Nearly ever single 'ship is supported. If you think about it, it's true. ^____^
David's timing was so good on that joke that I almost didn't realize the pun. O__O It was the first interview I watched, so I didn't realize they all had to do a lame joke about it. When I did finally figure it out, it was one of those, "Oh. OH!!" kind of moments.
I keep trying to remind myself that it's a DVD intended for kids, but that still doesn't excuse the friggin' head.
There is something about Remus/Lily, isn't there? Granted, he is far too gay for her, but I wonder if maybe that had a little preteen romance before he came out. In fact, I have HP Sims2 characters (because I'm a dork), and I kept trying to get Lily to have a crush on Remus, but she kept going for Sirius. Dammit, no one is impervious to that man's charms. Even James is in love with him. But, Remus finally won her over, though she did indeed marry James, but now I have this twisted desire to have her get pregnant with Remus's baby. Because it's sims, and I can. Mua ha ha ha...
Sims2: supporting all your sick fandom quirks. Even mpreg.
Thank you for supplying me with my Project of the Day. Because I am totally making a "gay werewolf boyfriend" icon now.
Oh, and HUZZAH!!! Because it is a great word, worthy of repetition, and fitting for the circumstances.
*glomp*

Date: 2004-11-27 09:45 pm (UTC)Oh yes, that is very true.
David's timing was so good on that joke that I almost didn't realize the pun
Which is why I loved it, everyone else was just so very obviously about it. I like my puns to have a sort of subtle wink and nod to it, and if David did not already have my love, he would for that.
There is something about Remus/Lily, isn't there? Granted, he is far too gay for her, but I wonder if maybe that had a little preteen romance before he came out.
Oh yes, I do sekritly fancy that notion, even though you know he was having perfectly natural dreams about someone else. But I can imagine Lily maybe hitting on Remus and James going all bonker, and Remus kindly telling Lily he isn't interested/isn't ready/is flaming.
I don't play Sims 2, mostly because my computer would explode, but
Because I am totally making a "gay werewolf boyfriend" icon now.
Hee!
Huzzah is a lexcellent word. It is delicious and joyful.

Dude, I have no problem with that. Have at it in any way you like, in fact, I'd love to see people doing a -thon like that, it would be cool.
And OMG A R/S Hug icon of your adorable Sims. Hopefully you'll do another aweome update on the adventures in HP Simdom. And Sirius will remain so damn Sirius-like.

Ahem.
Anyway.
The Sims: Hell yes, I intend to do such an update! Recently I've been making more people - today I added the LeStrange brothers (to court Bellatrix,) and Vernon and Marge Dursley because Petunia is about to turn into an adult.

Hee, I eagerly await the new update.

Date: 2004-11-28 12:51 am (UTC)YAY.
you know what's sad?
Date: 2004-11-26 11:05 pm (UTC)I thought that the Thelwis/Oldman interview was sweet. They seemed to really like each other as colleagues, which was good, because it came across in the movie (if they didn't get on, well - talent!).
But, what ever has happened to Oldman's accent? He sounds so noo yawk. I was shocked! His accent wasn't that flat in PoA - thank goodness - he brought the posh to Sirius Black. To tell the truth, I have never heard of Thelwis before PoA. What the hell was he in?
Well, if you are asking for requests - porn? Hmmm Lupin/Black and mistletoe? Or you could make it sweet... none of the darkside that your characters walk upon... how would you ever manage it?
Re: you know what's sad?
Date: 2004-11-27 07:08 am (UTC)(but I wanna smack that damn head during the interviews. Funny in the movies, but omg stop)
Re: you know what's sad?
Date: 2004-11-27 07:16 am (UTC)That's where I am too. I thought it was a neat way to get someone talking during that scene, and since Ernie doesn't talk and Stan just says a couple of dim things, it was a clever idea, but in no way should it get the LAST WORDS during these interviews, which are actually interesting and PLEASE let David and Gary speak!
They seemed to really like each other as colleagues, which was good, because it came across in the movie
They really do, and it's really fantastic to see two excellent character actors take on my favorite characters from HP and doing some neat things with them. Thewlis really nailed several elements that I've always imagined that Lupin would do in HP, while bringing across the resigned sadness/acceptance of his role in the wizarding world.
He sounds so noo yawk. I was shocked! His accent wasn't that flat in PoA - thank goodness - he brought the posh to Sirius Black.
Ah, that's what it is, he's sort of got a cross-Atlantic thing going on. To be honest though, as a New Yorker, that isn't really Noo-Yawk (hee), but it does have some of the flat elements to it, which made me a little puzzled. Plus he did a 'New York' accent in Romeo Is Bleeding that was just so very weird and affected. The way he was speaking in the interview, that was more of a muddled accent picked up, although I don't think Oldman lives (even part-time) in the US, right? I could have sworn he lives in the UK.
To tell the truth, I have never heard of Thelwis before PoA. What the hell was he in?
He was in James and the Giant Peach (he refers in the interview about doing children's films and enjoying them), he played the neurotic earthworm. I went onto a Thewlis-kick after seeing him in PoA.
He was in Total Eclipse, a terrible film, but he does make out and have implied sex with Leonardo DiCaprio (playing French poets) and you get to see, um a lot of him.
He also did Seven Years in Tibet, starring Brad Pitt. And Gangsta No. 1 with Paul Bettany.
He also starred in this film called Naked which is supposed to be really good, but I haven't found it yet.
Well, if you are asking for requests - porn? Hmmm Lupin/Black and mistletoe? Or you could make it sweet... none of the darkside that your characters walk upon... how would you ever manage it?
Hee. I have managed some happyish fic, even though it is a bit of a struggle, mostly because it veers a bit too much towards comedy or fluff, obviously not areas of strength. But I shall try to try.
Re: you know what's sad?
Date: 2004-11-27 10:09 am (UTC)No, Gary Oldman hasn't lived in the UK for a while now. Nor has Rickman, I think. I think Gaz has children with an American woman and they live in the states.
He did a commerical over here with the elder Sutherland (Donald) and his accent made me do a double take - he really hasn't sounded the same since Beethoven, but it's nice to know that he can call up the Royal Register when needed.
I hope he doesn't do batshit crazy! Sirius for GoF, because Black was managing then, it's when he got put in la petit azkaban (the house) that's when he got stir crazy.
But yeah, I thought the interview with Thelwis and himself could have gone on longer. They are very charismatic men. Thelwis is actually rather attractive without that stoopid 'stache. I never imagined Lupin with facial hair, he seems a bit too fastidious for that.
Re: you know what's sad?
Date: 2004-11-27 09:50 pm (UTC)He did mention having two very young sons, but yeah, I had no idea where he lived. If he lives in America, that oddly mixed accent explains it.
I hope he doesn't do batshit crazy! Sirius for GoF, because Black was managing then, it's when he got put in la petit azkaban (the house) that's when he got stir crazy.
Oh, I hope so too. As awesme as Crazy Gary Oldman is, we need sane Sirius in GoF so we can really mourn/understand the horror that is Grimmauld Place and what it did to Sirius.
I never imagined Lupin with facial hair, he seems a bit too fastidious for that.
Me either, and it's basically something that I've come to terms with. Heh. I don't think I've even written him with facial hair, because Lupin may have greying, slightly mussed hair, the facial hair just didn't work. Maybe because they wanted to go for a more Professor-y look? Ah, I forgive the pornstache because I enjoyed certain elements he brought to the role.
