The further time marches on, the more I despise how we have allowed today to be a scare tactic.

Because I remember how I felt.

And now:

Because I'm not letting anyone get away with this bullshit again. Four years ago, Rudy Giuliani's speech in front of the Republican National Convention disgusted me with his account of watching the Towers burn and how he supposedly thought, "Thank God George Bush is our president."

The fucking despicable outrageousness of it still boils my blood.

And how far have we gone? It's been seven years. I just cut a huge rant but what I did want to say is this: we do not honor the dead, the survivors, and the rescue workers by using today to terrorize voters into picking The Political Party That Wants To Keep You Safe.

We honor them by remembering and when we say, "Never again" we fucking mean it by doing every-fucking-thing to protect our country not to win a fucking election.

It really disgusts me how 9/11 is being used as an election tool. I can't even imagine how the families of the victims feel, having a day that holds so many terrible memories being thrown around as a scare tactic.

It's also disgusting in that you see everyone crowing about "small town values" and making snide comments about big city life. Then they whip out a video like this to intimidate voters. I remember walking out of Fahrenheit: 9/11 steaming with rage. They really do use that day as a control over the populace.

Meanwhile, rescue workers get denied necessary medical relief by their insurance companies. Way to take care of our own.

It's pretty disgraceful. I feel your outrage, not just at the politicians who do it, but at the American public for not recognizing it for what it is and rejecting it.

I really almost wish there could be a way for all of us to just stand up and say, "no, not this time. You're not waving the bloody shirt for your own benefit and to condemn the the rest of us."

But I grow cynical of that ever happening.

I was late to work this morning because I watched MSNBC replay the live coverage of that morning in real time. I was remembering. I don't ever want to forget, and I never will even if I *did* want to forget. However, when I saw the RNC run that "in memoriam," all I wanted to do was scrub my eyeballs and then my brain of the utter unfeeling *tastelessness*.

I know this sounds sort of silly, but I'm offended by the clueless *tackiness* of the Republican party wholly. They have no good sense and no good taste either.

Ugh. The video that they aired, I watched a bit of it and I was just floored with the arrogance and the OBVIOUS false recreation of the events surrounding it. You really want to go there, RNC? Where's the side-by-side image of Bush sitting in that fucking classroom for seven minutes as the towers burned?

They don't own 9/11 and it is revolting that no one is allowed to challenge them on that.

Exactly.

The fear mongering is so frustrating/angering/disappointing/etc. Yet I'm not at all surprised at how it's happening, and would've been surprised if it didn't...which sucks even more.
